Dog Training: Is Your Dog Up To Traveling?

Dogs are like explorers wanting to check out new places and people. But, they may or may not actually enjoying traveling. Traveling with your dog is not simple as taking a bag or a valise with you. You may have a well trained dog that readily obeys his learned dog training commands, but that doesn't mean he will behave well on the road. You need to know some important tips about traveling with your dog in order to make it an enjoyable experience.

Avoid if you can

There are several methods by which you can avoid putting your dog into the task of traveling with you. This will be more comfortable to the dog as well as for you.

Take assistance

You can take the assistance of a friend or relative who can care for the dog while you are away. Alternatively, you can hire the services of a person who can take care of your dog the whole time you are away from home. You can provide tips to the person caring for your dog by taking advice from your vet who could probably help you out in getting someone to help you with looking after your dog.

Use services of a Kennel

Check with your vet and contacts to provide you with recommendations for a good kennel service to leave your dog. Visit the kennel to see how their service works and have a look at the other dogs to see if they are being properly fed and attended to. Make sure that the people are patient and friendly in nature to ensure that your dog is taken care of in the right manner.

Cannot Avoid- Must Travel

If you decide that you cannot leave the dog and need to have it along with you in your travel, it is best to enquire with your vet for some advice and also to have a proper checkup before you leave. Ask the doc to provide a health certificate including details such as vaccinations, as this may become necessary.

If you are traveling by air, some services will assess the behavior of the dog and may allow it to travel with you. Otherwise, you may be advised to put the dog in a carrier and place it in the luggage compartments.

If you are traveling by road, ensure that your dog is getting enough fresh air. Do not leave your dog in your car and go away. Look for place with shade to park the car as direct sunlight can increase the temperature in your car that can possibly cause problems to your dog such as dehydration, stroke, etc.

Traveling Abroad

If you are visiting another country make sure you know details such as weather conditions so that you can ask your vet if it is advisable to take your pet along. Ask for some tips to ensure that your dog has a comfortable experience. You might be asked for a health certificate. Also, ensure that you know the rules and other requirements of the country you are visiting in terms of taking your dog along.

Keeping the comfort of the dog in mind will ensure that your dog will have a very good experience while traveling with you. But, remember, while making it a very comfortable experience it is not necessarily going to be easy for you. Also be sure that your dog has undergone dog training at least to the point where he obeys simple commands that will keep him safe as you travel.
